Pathologic Megalodon Shark Tooth
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
Normally I wouldn't post a broken tooth, but I had to make an exception with this megalodon tooth. Its so pathologic I almost didn't recognize it when I found it. The blade is compressed on both sides, the serrations are folded over, and the enamel is just all wrecked. Oh if only it had the other root lobe it would be the baddest patho in my collection. ... |

Truck Meg
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
We don't find a lot of complete megalodon teeth in the section of the Edisto where we hunt so this tooth was a nice surprise. Its definitely not the best one I've ever found, but it has an interesting job in my collection. This is now my truck meg - the tooth I keep in my truck so when people ask me what I'm doing and they don't believe me I can show this tooth. Then I have something even if I'm empty handed in my collecting efforts thus far.... |

Serrated Megalodon Tooth
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |

We don't find megalodon teeth in good condition in the river where we hunt ususally, but this one was a nice surprise, especially since its serrated with the tip!... |

Large Angustidens Shark Tooth in Matrix
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |

It is very rare to find a tooth of this quality still stuck in matrix. But this stuff isn't the original matrix. The ocean eroded this spot out and redeposited this tooth. Whatever the minerals are in this area the layer is hard.... |

Edisto River Megalodon Shark Tooth
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
This megalodon tooth was without a doubt the most unexpected surprise of the dive. Normally we are looking for the Oligocene giant white shark teeth - Carcharocles angustidens. The area of the South Carolina Lowcountry that this part of the Edisto river cuts through is not well known for nice megalodon teeth, but sometimes we get lucky.
To date, this is the biggest & best megalodon tooth I've found in the Edisto river. ... |

Edisto River Megalodon Tooth
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
It is so rare to find megalodon teeth in the section of the Edisto river where I dive. For some reason, they are just not there in any kind of quantity. When we do find them, they are almost always destroyed, sand blasted and crushed to fragments. When I swam upon this tooth, I was utterly shocked. Not only was it complete, but it also had enamel. Voila, my first complete keeper megalodon tooth from the Edisto river.... |
|
|
Posterior Megalodon Shark Tooth
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
When I hunt fossils, I pick up everything I find. I remember finding this tooth - I thought it was just a root with a busted off blade. I casually threw it in my bone / tooth fragment bag and went merrily on my way collecting teeth. When I got home I cleaned it up and noticed that the enamel was intact, and this was an extreme posterior megalodon tooth. A very cool find! I am really glad I picked it up!... |

Venice Megalodon Tooth Bone Valley Formation
Sarasota County, Florida, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
This is the megalodon tooth I drove to Venice Beach Florida to find. Its a superhero of the highest order worthy of the top shelf in my megalodon tooth collection. The color is fantastic (true of many bone valley formation megalodon teeth), its sharply serrated with the tip, and the root is complete with no real damage besides a few hydration cracks. One of the coolest features is a bite mark across the bourlette, seen just left of center. A true gem!... |

GMR megalodon tooth!

This is the best megalodon tooth we have found from GMR. meg teeth like this are few and far between at least for us. length is just shy of three inches.and while not killer sharp the serrations are still easily visable. this was found by my father eaither in 03 or 04.This tooth would have been in the upper right section of the sharks jaw. I still wish these were as abundant as the great white teeth we found there.&... |

3 7/16 inch Lee Creek Pungo Megalodon Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
This Pungo megalodon tooth was definitely my trip maker. I'm glad I brought my camera because the ground shot is great. The preservation on this tooth is unreal! I've been internally conflicted about what to call this, Chubutensis or Megalodon. I found it in the Pungo formation which is where chubs come from and there is the hint of cusps just below the root on each side. But I finally decided that the "cusps" weren't pronounced enough for me to accept them as cusps and I sett... |

Megalodon or Great White??? and why!
Calvert County, Maryland, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |
|
|
I just finished up reading the heated forum of the Calvert Cliffs Great White. This is the only tooth that seems to be even a possibility in my collection. This so happens to also be the very first meg/white tooth I ever found. It came from the northern most tip/oldest. The tooth obviously appears to be a lower Anterior position.
It doesnt appear to have a bourlette
The root although damaged doesnt appear to ever have been much of a root. Especial... |

As just about anyone who goes to Lee Creek what they would most like to find and they'll probably say a megalodon tooth. I'm no different. I'll jump on that bandwagon. Megalodon teeth are cool, and among megalodons, those from Lee Creek measure up nicely when compared to specimens found anywhere else in the world.
I'll never forget finding this meg tooth as long as I live. The Lee C... |

Aurora Megalodon Tooth

With all the success I had during my Aurora trip this weekend, I didn't find a complete Yorktown megalodon until I was walking back to the bus at the end of the day. I was at the top of a mound of Yorktown and Pungo mix, and this tooth was just to the right of a knee high ridge of material. There were some weeds growing near it that hid it from view of the other side of the ridge. Some other collector had walked the other side of the ridge, but didn't hit this side. The person walked wi... |

Summerville Megalodon Tooth
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |

I love SC land teeth. They are my favorite because the colors are so great! This megalodon is no exception. The spot I found it has some crazy colored rocks so the teeth, when whole, are always gorgeous. There are so many colors in the enamel I can't even start to name them all. Even the bourlette is intact and marbled. The tip is there, and so are the serrations. The root isn't the greatest, but its complete and the crack doesn't go all the way through, thank goodness. Else, I would ha... |

4" Restored Lee Creek Meg
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles megalodon |

I decided to post a restored shark tooth for a few reasons. First, the blade on this Meg is great. Second, the classic Lee Creek coloration makes for an aesthetic tooth. With only some root damage, I thought this one was a good candidate for restoration. |

This is a beast of a tooth! Its over 1 1/4 inches thick and has a wicked curve to it. There are these wrinkles on the back of the tooth because the shark's mouth was so crowded with teeth that this one didn't have time to grow. The root has this cool blue line across it, and the serrations are even mostly intact. If the stupid machine hadn't nicked it on the front of the root, it would be perfect. Still an awesome tooth.... |
